Welcome to Indian

Runners

After keeping and rearing rare breed chickens, my step into keeping and breeding Indian Runner Ducks was somewhat unorthodox. My wife was contacted by a friend who knew we kept chickens and geese, who had found a rucksack containing a French Marron Hen and a duck, in the back garden. Someone had thrown the rucksack containing the chicken and duck over the hedge and after contacting the Police and RSPCA several
times and with no response, my wife was contacted to see if we would give a home to t the animals. We drove to Scarborough to collect them and within a very short time Miss India and Miss Hen had both fitted in beautifully with the other hens, cockerels and geese.  At this stage we knew nothing about Ducks, however as Spring approached our lovely little girl had started to display somewhat strange behaviour and was becoming aggressive with the hens, grabbing them behind the neck and hanging on for dear life. We decided that Miss India probably needed some company from others of her own species. It was at this point that we contacted
a breeder who advised us that Miss India was actually Mr Indian and his rather bazar behaviour was part of his mating ritual and
in the absence of Mrs Duck, Mrs Hen was the next best thing. We promptly purchased 4 three week old ducklings hand picked as probably female by the breeder and this was to become the start of our love of Indian Runner Ducks.
